RP and Combat Sims
A Look at ARTORIUS
Today I had a chance to visit and explore ARTORIUS, a Roleplay and Combat place in Second Life that is both Roman and Arthurian in theme. It is located in the Cascade Falls region and has aaminah Shikami listed as owner. She also plays the role of Empress of Rome with Mike1 Langer as Emperor. The Queen of ARTORIUS is played by Thelema Parnes and King Arthur is played by TROJAN Petrovic.
I learned about ARTORIUS from aaminah Shikami. I think, if my memory is correct, she invited me to join their group but, unfortunately, I only had the time to visit the place today. Sorry about that.
Landing Area
The landing area of ARTORIUS is located at the Market which is on a sky platform about 500 meters from the ground. There you’ll find online indicators, a sign for combat rules, a big DCS2 sign and a couple of boxes for Suggestions and Applications.
I tried clicking on the combat rules sign but it wasn’t clickable and for those looking to join ARTORIUS as a roleplayer then they can do so through the Applications Box.
On the floor of the Landing Area is a red arrow that points to another red arrow that also points to another red arrow and so on. Following the red arrows will take you through the market and to the big teleporter which will teleport you to different parts of ARTORIUS.
The Market
The Market of ARTORIUS is not very big and I didn’t see many merchants. I think I only saw two merchants and they are Legend and House of Style. If there are more then I guess I missed seeing them.
Facing the direction of the red arrows, House of Style is on the left side of the path and Legend is on the right side. I didn’t look at them that long but I think they’re selling Medieval and Roman themed items. Ha ha ha! What else could they be selling in a Roman/Arthurian themed place.
The Village
The Village is also located on the same platform. For me, I wouldn’t call it a village because it’s too small and it doesn’t really look like a village. It looked more like a suburb than a village (but that’s just me).
The area is divided like a pie and, I believe, each piece (except the piece that contains the Market) is for rent. Most of the available pieces are already occupied but I did see one piece that’s still empty.
In the center of it all is the teleporter that will take you to different parts of ARTORIUS.
MAB’s Lair
The first location I visited was the MAB’s Lair. I’m not sure what MAB means but the place looks really nice. I was teleported 700 meters above ground and landed on a set of floating rock-like land formation. On them are two structures that I just can’t fully describe.
Stonehenge
Next location I visited was Stonehenge. I have only seen Stonehenge in photos and I guess it does look like the real life one only smaller.
Temple
Back to the Roman side of ARTORIUS is the Temple. Inside the Temple are images of different Roman Gods and Goddesses.
A Temple is a good RP location. You can have rituals, sacrifices, funerals, marriages, etc. in a Temple. You can play all sorts of stuff pertaining to religion and worship in a Temple.
Lady of the Lake
Under the waters of ARTORIUS is a place called Lady of the Lake. In the Arthurian Legend, “The Lady of the Lake is the name of several related characters who play parts. These characters’ roles include giving King Arthur his sword Excalibur, enchanting Merlin, and raising Lancelot after the death of his father. Different writers and copyists give her name variously as Nimue, Viviane, Elaine, Niniane, Nivian, Nyneve, Nimueh and other variations. – Wikipedia”
Bathhouse
I’ve read that during ancient times, bathhouses were very popular in Rome and that Romans would even transact their businesses in them even those relating to politics and governance.
One thing that I’m not quite sure of is if they already have colored rubber beach balls in or, in this case, outside the bathhouses of Ancient Rome.
Other Parts of ARTORIUS
There are still many places to explore in ARTORIUS like the Colosseum which looks very much like the Colosseum of The Roman Empire, the Senate House and others. These places are not just decorations. They also act as stages or settings to the story played or acted out by roleplayers.
The same goes with combat. Tournaments are better held in a Colosseum or in an Arena while raids and wars are better held in open fields.
Visit ARTORIUS
If you are looking for a place where you can have both a Roman and an Arthurian experience then ARTORIUS could be that place for you. For those interested in becoming a roleplayer, there is an Application Box inside the landing area where you can drop off your applications. I guess for combat, you’ll have to join there group so that you’ll receive notices about tournaments and raids.

I never knew that there were combat areas and things like that in SL. When I tried it out, all I found were stores and advertisements everywhere, and just couldn’t get into it.
